Algiers couple beaten during home invasion while children were home

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An Algiers couple was beaten during a home invasion Sunday night while their five kids were home.

The victims tell FOX 8 they were watching a movie when the armed suspect walked in though a back door that was unlocked in the 6400 block of Medlock Street.

"He opened the door and he was looking for money. I stood around and he hit me," says the victim.

The man says the gunman punched him in the face. The man's wife jumped in and tried to stop the gunman.

"My wife tried to defend me, and that's when he started hitting my wife too," says the victim.

The husband gave the intruder his wallet, which contained $80, then the suspect fled.

Both the husband and the wife were treated at the hospital and released.. The children were not harmed.
