NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Big 3 Basketball is taking over Friday nights this summer as former NBA legends vie for the title in the second season of the explosive league of legends on FOX.

The concept, created by Ice Cube with commissioner Clyde Drexler, a former NBA legend, pits former players against each other in a 3-v-3 format on a half court complete with 'four-point' circles.

"It's a thirty-foot shot, we created a circle because we didn't want a whole lot of attempts, if you had an arc you'd have too many attempts, but with a circle that's the perfect amount," Ice Cube said.

The league is in its second season and features eight teams of former players, all-stars, and coaches competing in a round robin style tournament over the summer.

Drexler said the format makes for an exciting show that all basketball fans will love especially watching some of their favorite players.

"[They're] still competing at a very high level, and because it's three on three it's even better because their skill set will be magnified, and they don't have to run and chase these young guys through pick and rolls all game," Drexler said.

While this seasons games don't come through New Orleans, Ice Cub promises the he'll bring the Big 3 to the Big Easy next year.

"We had you guys on our list for season two, hopefully we can get there season three. We all want to go down to New Orleans, they're telling me, 'Why is the N.O. not on the map?" So we're gonna get there next year and show y'all this up close, if you can see it up close you have to because to see seven-footers play three on three basketball is an amazing sight!" Ice Cube said.

You can catch the Big 3 on FOX 8 tonight at 7 p.m.
