Deputy injured during traffic stop by man wanted on drug charges
PARDIS, LA (WVUE) - A St. Charles Parish deputy was injured by a wanted man during a traffic stop in Pardis.
On Tuesday at 11:40 p.m., the deputy stopped a vehicle at Hwy. 90 and bayou Gauche Rd. During the investigation it was determined that the subject was wanted out of Chicago on drug charges.
As the officer asked the subject to step out of the vehicle it appeared as though the driver was going to drive away. The officer then attempted to reach into the vehicle to disable it at which time the suspect drove away dragging the officer a short distance, investigators said.
After helping the injured officer, another officer on the scene attempted to locate the suspect, but was unsuccessful. This investigation continued into Wednesday morning.
The victim was treated and released at a nearby hospital for moderate injuries.
Just after midnight, the suspect's vehicle and the suspect's girlfriend were located, but the man fled the scene on foot, officers said.
At approximately 7:25 a.m., Lamar Lathan, of Aurora, IL, was located and arrested on the charges of Resisting Arrest by Violence or Force, Aggravated Battery, FUG/Chicago, Theft under $750.00, Two Headlights Required, Poss. of Marijuana.
Lathan's girlfriend, who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident, was also arrested. Tiffany Suggs,Yorkville, IL, was charged with Possession of MDA – Ecstasy.
