Man arrested following SWAT standoff in Slidell
Authorities took 29-year-old Steven Cayou into custody after an hours-long SWAT standoff.

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department arrested a man following a SWAT Standoff, Friday, in south Slidell. Deputies were called to the scene, just before 9 p.m.

According to police, deputies responded to a domestic dispute between a man and his pregnant girlfriend. The two were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical fight. She told deputies that after grabbing her, her boyfriend, identified as 29-year-old Steven Cayou, locked himself inside the home, and sent text messages to her saying he would not come out and that he would take his own life.

The STPSO SWAT team was called and arrived on scene, just before 10 p.m. Despite negotiating for hours, authorities could not get Cayou to come outside. A warrant was obtained and SWAT team members forced their way into the home where they found Cayou on the second floor. He was taken into custody and taken to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

He was booked with one count of domestic abuse battery (pregnant victim) and resisting arrest.
