THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Thibodaux Police arrested a 24-year-old man who called 911 to find out if there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Christian Palacios is booked with unlawful use of the 911 system.
Police say he called 911 on Wednesday, July 16 at about 10:01 p.m. to ask if there were any warrants for his arrest. The dispatcher asked Palacios if he knew the difference between an emergency call and a non-emergency call. He admitted he did. Police responded to the 1500 block of Bell Street and issued Palacios a misdemeanor summons.
Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue urges all citizens to use the 911 system properly.
Non-Emergency
• (985) 446-5021 should be used for situations that do NOT need an immediate response or dispatch of police.
Emergency
• 9-1-1 is for police, fire, or medical emergencies when immediate action is required: Someone's health, safety or property is in jeopardy or a crime is in progress.
Thibodaux Police say Palacios had no active warrants.
