Kenner Police: 5th victim accuses ex-gymnastics coach of sex abuse

Kenner gymnastics coach facing new sexual abuse charges

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Kenner Police have booked a former gymnastics coach with two more counts of sexual abuse.

Police say Jonathan West faces additional counts of sexual battery and oral sexual battery after a fifth victim came forward.

The victim told police the abuse happened in Kenner at the New Orleans Outlaws Cheerleading Center last year.

The owner of the center told us by phone that she gave West a drug test and paid for a background check through the All Star Cheer organization, but since he had not been convicted of any crimes the background check showed up clear.

West is already ready booked with four counts of sexual battery against children in connection with his work as a coach at Fliptastics Gym in Luling.

Police are continuing to interview children that West worked with to identify any other victims.

Kenner Police Lt. Michael Cunningham said it isn't unusual in these situations for additional victims to come forward. He is urging anyone who may have information about the case to contact Kenner Police or Crimestoppers.

The investigation, which involves multiple jurisdictions, is ongoing.
