NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - St. John the Baptist Parish has collected mosquitoes who tested positive for West Nile.
The samples were collected in two zones in Edgard, two zones in Reserve and three zones in LaPlace, according to a post on the parish Facebook page.
St. John officials have increased extensive spraying, and larvicide activities will be conducted over the next several nights in the areas.
According to the post, officials do not know the exact streets the samples were collected in, but anyone in the five-mile radius will be distributed education materials.
According to the mosquito company, the extremely hot weather has caused a tremendous rise in mosquitoes contributing the to the recent outbreak of West Nile.
