SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - The Northshore Beach in Slidell has closed due to safety concerns, according to St. Tammany Parish Government.

The beach has been temporarily closed due to significant erosion of the beach, and safety concerns caused by that erosion, according to a release issued by parish government.

Parish Government's Department of Public Works began work Thursday to correct the problem. Completion of the work is expected to take several days, which is dependent on weather and tidal conditions, according to the report.

"The beach, located off Carr Drive on Lake Pontchartrain, has seen a greater level of tidal erosion than it has historically experienced. Because of this erosion, underwater obstructions have become a safety hazard, making it necessary to close the beach temporarily to rebuild the beach and alleviate the potentially dangerous conditions," the report states.

Parish Government is asking citizens who use the beach to remain off the property and out of the area until the work is complete for safety concerns, and in order to not hinder or slow down the work being done by the crews.
