Dispute between former coworkers led to fatal French Quarter shooting
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting between two former coworkers in the French Quarter Thursday.
The shooting happened at the intersection of Bienville and Decatur streets.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 3:10 a.m. in regards to a shooting. They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
According to NOPD, the shooting happened outside a bar between a current employee and a former employee.
The shooter, who has been identified as James Nero, admitted to police that he retrieved the gun from a nearby vehicle.
Nero remained on the scene and admitted that he was the shooter, according to NOPD.
NOPD was on scene within one minute and the crime was captured using the real-time crime center.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
The NOPD is investigating the shooting as a homicide and Nero was charged with second-degree murder.
This is the first homicide in the Eighth District this year.
No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
