NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department Violent Warrant Offenders Squad and U.S. Marshals have arrested a man in connection to an attempted murder case.
Dashawn Jenkins was arrested in connection with a shooting incident that happened in June in the 6200 block of Dumaine Street.
When officers arrived on scene the day of the crime they discovered a man lying on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the shoulder and stomach.
The victim was transported via EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
Detectives learned that the victim had been inside of a residence in the area with his girlfriend when the victim reportedly exited the residence to meet with an individual known as "Deshawn," who had agreed to purchase a rifle from the victim.
The victim's girlfriend told police that while she was inside she heard shots fired where she found the victim screaming that the suspect had shot him.
Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot on Dauphine Street to Tricou Street, then unknown.
The victim had also reportedly exited the residence carrying a handgun, which was discovered to be missing following the incident.
As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were able to positively identify Jenkins as the perpetrator and obtain a warrant for his arrest.
Jenkins was found and arrested on August 1 at a residence in the 1400 block of Bienville Street.
Jenkins was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for attempted second degree murder, armed robbery, possession of firearm by a convicted felon and three counts of illegal discharge of a weapon.
