NOPD investigating fatal motorcycle accident on Claiborne Bridge

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A fatal motorcycle accident shut down the Claiborne Bridge for hours on Sunday night.

Around 8:10 p.m. NOPD officers responded to a call of a man that fell from the Claiborne Bridge and landed near the intersection of NOrth Claiborne Avenue and Japonica Street.

NOPD Traffic investigators determined that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the Claiborne bridge when for unknown reasons struck the guardrail and landed on the ground level.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene on the St. Claude side of the bridge.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
