NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A Kenner mother has been arrested after she left her children in a car, according to Kenner Police.
On Sunday police were dispatched to a shopping strip on 2500 Williams Blvd in reference to two small children found in a car with the windows rolled up.
Witnesses were able to removed the children from the car.
The children, an 11-month-old and a three-year-old, were in the car for over an hour and half, according to police.
Shawnise Sherman, 22, approached the witnesses and began a verbal confrontation when she learned police were called, according to the report.
The confrontation escalated and Sherman assaulted the person who called 911, according to police.
The recorded temperature at that time of day was 91 degrees with a feel like temperature of 99 degrees.
Sherman was arrested and charged with simple battery and child desertion.
Both children were treated at the scene by EMS and later released into the care of family.
