Woman accused of killing JPSO deputy husband seeking bond reduction
JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The woman accused of killing her husband, a JPSO sergeant heads back to court Tuesday.
Dramatic 911 calls were released Monday from the night of the incident.
Shantel Wagner was arrested for second degree murder in the shooting death of her husband Troy Smith.
She listened to the call in yesterday's preliminary hearing.
While investigators say surveillance video supports the two were arguing, Wagner's defense claims Smith killed himself.
"She's been consistent from day one saying they were arguing," said Defense Attorney Leo Palazzo. "He was drinking, he was on pain medication, he was depressed, he had PTSD, and he broke, he broke."
The lead investigator testified in court Wagner's account had inconsistencies, and did not align with scene reconstruction.
The hearing will continue at 2:30 p.m. with two more witnesses and a motions hearing, one of which is an expected bond reduction motion.
