Saints see growth from Hendrickson in year two
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Talk to Saints defensive end Trey Hendrickson and he comes across as a man of few words.
"I'm just trying to absorb as much information and be coachable and get the job done on Sundays," Hendrickson told reporters Wednesday.
But, meet Hendrickson on the field and you won't forget him.
"You feel him," Sean Payton said. "There's a presence to him and I think in his second year now, knowing what we're doing have begun to do some, we've seen some really good things."
"It's just focusing on doing my job," Hendrickson said. "A heightened focus on the little things, alignment, assignment just the detail things are what separates people in this league.
Hendrickson started the first preseason game and played well against Jacksonville and his head coach believes he can be a significant contributor in 2018.
"It's not necessarily his feistiness, it's how a player plays between the whistles," Payton said. "Can he defend the run? Can he affect the passer? Do we consider him a pressure player or not? What are the things that we think he does very well and lets try to do those things? I think year two he's a guy that's in the mix definitely for playing time. "
Hendrickson also got first team reps Wednesday when Alex Okafor left with an apparent injury and did not return.
