ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office says they have located human remains believed to be that of a missing Metairie man.
According to Sheriff Greg Champagne, the remains were discovered by deputies in a remote wooded area of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
Champagne stated that all indications are that the body discovered is that of 61-year-old Clarence Schlamp. Schlamp was reported missing from Jefferson Parish on August 11 after he did not return from a camping trip. On August 14, his campsite, along with his vehicle and personal belongings were found undisturbed. Schlamp also left a note behind stating that he went hiking an would return.
Preliminary evidence shows that Schlamp died as the result of suicide. The investigation into his death is ongoing and an autopsy will be performed to determine an official cause of death.
