Pair arrested for armed robbery on the West Bank

Jefferson Parish, LA – Two West Bank men were arrested after committing an armed robbery in Bridge City. The incident occurred Sunday around 9:00 a.m. at a Dollar General Store in the 1000 block of Seven Oaks Blvd. Brandon Barnes, 26, of Avondale and his brother, 22-year-old Ronell Barnes of Westwego were arrested.

Police say that both men entered the store wearing masks when they demanded money from the register and the safe. The manager was forced to give the money to the brothers who then fled out of the back door of the store. Customers who were near the rear of the building noticed the brothers fleeing the scene in a red car.

Officers pursued the vehicle to the intersection of North Claiborne Parkway and Patton Lane. Both men exited the car and fled on foot when one of the men dropped a bag containing money and a pistol. A short time later, both men were seen jumping over fences in the 900 block of North Claiborne Parkway, where the two were apprehended.

Ronell Barnes and Brandon Barnes were both transported to the Jefferson Parish Corrections Center where they were both booked with armed robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
