NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man was shot to death early Saturday (Feb. 10) in the French Quarter, New Orleans police said.

The victim’s age and identity have not been disclosed. The NOPD described him only as “an adult male” who was shot around 1:45 a.m. and pronounced dead at the intersection of Chartres and Dumaine streets.

The department said no other information was available and gave no indication of whether a suspect had been seen.

The NOPD also did not say whether the victim was a local man or one of the thousands of tourists visiting the city for this final Carnival weekend.

The French Quarter killing occurred despite the deployment of a large police presence throughout the French Quarter and parade routes. The NOPD’s force has been supplemented by hundreds of Louisiana State Police troopers, as well as officers and deputies from 18 other law enforcement agencies from throughout the state.
