Three overnight shootings in New Orleans leave 2 dead, 5 wounded

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Two people were killed and five others injured in three separate overnight shootings early Saturday (June 28), New Orleans police said.
The first shooting, at 12:38 a.m., wound up as a double homicide, police said. One man was found dead in the street near Douglass and Delery streets in the Lower Ninth Ward. A second man was found in a backyard area, also dead from several gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish coroner’s officer later identified the victims as 48-year-old Jose Luis Torres Ramirez and 44-year-old Jesus Torres Ramirez.
Four other adult victims were reported shot at 1:18 a.m., at a house party near the corner of Bill and Gus streets in the Little Woods neighborhood of New Orleans East.
Police said these victims arrived in a private vehicle seeking medical treatment. They included a woman shot in her left leg and foot, a man shot in his wrist, a man shot in his left leg and a man shot in his buttocks.
And across the river in Algiers, the NOPD said a man was wounded by gunfire at 1:22 a.m. in the 2600 block of General De Gaulle Drive. Police said this victim got into a fight with an unknown suspect who “procured a firearm and shot the victim.”
The NOPD said this victim returned fire, but the suspect fled on foot. It was unclear if the suspect was shot, but police said the victim used private transportation to seek hospital treatment.
