NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office says a federal judge will allow the state to intervene in the Cacho v. Gusman case, which is the case enforcing the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office consent decree regarding immigration detainers from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, the state has moved to terminate and dissolve the consent decree.

Officials said they will provide an update when a hearing is scheduled.

“It’s clear that the consent judgment in this case should be dissolved on its own terms, among other reasons. I look forward to ending it and encourage the Sheriff to adopt a policy that does not obstruct ICE or conflict with State and federal law,” Attorney General Liz Murrill said.
