NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans is warning residents about a scam involving a fake “Notice of Default” letter falsely claiming to be tied to the court’s Traffic Division.

Court officials said the letter references alleged parking or toll violations and demands immediate payment, but it was not issued by the Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans and should be treated as a scam.

According to the court, the fraudulent notice appears designed to create urgency by threatening legal consequences, including license suspension and collection action. Officials also said the letter includes a QR code directing recipients to resolve the matter.

The court said official court communications do not use threatening language demanding immediate payment through QR codes or unofficial channels.

The court advised anyone who receives the notice not to scan the QR code, not to provide personal or financial information and not to make any payments in response to the letter. Officials said anyone unsure whether a court-related communication is legitimate should verify it using the court’s official contact information.

Anyone who received the letter and has questions about its legitimacy is encouraged to contact the Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans at 727 South Broad St., New Orleans, LA 70119, or by phone at 504-658-8500.
