Tulane tight end Ty Thompson overcomes multiple injuries to suit up for the Wave in 2026
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Ty Thompson started his college career as a quarterback for Oregon, then transferred to Tulane. Last year, he made the move to tight end and found early success in spring ball. But knee and hamstring injuries kept him out the entire 2025 season.
“He just needs good fortune. Everything he controls, he can control. He works his tail off, he’s unbelievable in the weight room. Our players would tell you, he’s a warrior in the weight room. He really studies the game. He impacts people in a positive way. He just needs the good Lord to have it in his will for him to be healthy. That’s all he needs, he needs air and opportunity. I’m hoping for him and praying for him that he can stay healthy this year. Because if he can stay healthy this year, I really think he can have a big year. He deserves that. We always don’t get what we deserve, but he deserves it,” said Will Hall.
“Yeah it was tough. I look at it as a blessing. It’s all part of God’s plan. I feel like it grew me in my faith, closer to God, trusting and understanding everything happens for a purpose. I feel like I’m stronger now because of it, and I wouldn’t change anything about it.
Thompson is a 2021 recruit. The No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in America when he signed with Oregon. Now he’s a grad transfer at Tulane.
“Ups and downs and everything in between. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I always tell my girlfriend, when she ask me how practice was, I say it was great. Football is the best thing on Earth, there’s nothing better. I’m just blessed, very lucky. Thank you guys, thanks to everyone in this building that makes it all happen,” said Thompson.
