NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Tropical Depression Nine has formed over the Gulf on Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The NHC said they will issue advisories starting at 4 p.m. as the forecast will strengthen quickly.

Development chances are high (90 percent) for an area of low pressure in the southern Gulf to become Tropical Storm Isaias over the next 48 hours.

This system starts in a good environment for strengthening, as long as it stays down south. There is a possibility future Isaias could strengthen into a hurricane in the Gulf, the first of the Atlantic season.

All track models agree the storm will slide east, then lift north very quickly going into the weekend. Exact details in that track will determine our impacts down the line.

It should be noted that late-season storms like this usually become one-sided on approach, which might help us in the end, especially if it landfalls to our east.

Stay tuned to the forecast as the tropical details come into focus.
