Letlow releases new TV ad ahead of Nov. midterm election
Election Day is Nov. 3
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - As the midterm elections fast approach, Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Julia Letlow of Louisiana has released a new TV ad in her race against Democrat Jamie Davis.
“Here in Louisiana, we know being flooded is a tragedy and for many it’s the first of two tragedies,” Letlow says in the first part of the ad. “Flood insurance has gone up 200%. It’s so expensive now our seniors have to sell the homes that they’ve paid off. That’s unconscionable,”
The campaign ad is dedicated to the topic of flood insurance.
“I’m holding FEMA and the big insurance companies accountable to lower costs, and I won’t stop until they do. I’m Julia Letlow, and I approve this message,” Letlow says in the ad.
For many years, campaign ads have been a part of the political landscape.
“This is a normal activity before an election,” said Mike Sherman, FOX 8 political analyst.
Letlow faces Davis in next month’s federal election. Still, she does not mention Davis in her new ad.
FOX 8 asked Sherman if it is still Letlow’s race to lose.
“Even if the national trend is favoring Democrats, it’s still a Republican’s race to lose in Louisiana. So advantage goes to Letlow,” Sherman replied.
He also commented on the state of the Senate race in one of Louisiana’s neighboring red states.
“In Texas right now, there’s a slight edge to the Democratic candidate. Nationally, with a deeply unpopular president having foreign wars, states that were safely Republican are now in play,” Sherman said. “Louisiana, it’s just such a tall hill to climb for a Democrat. And the fundamentals of this election still favor Letlow, but a closer-than-expected race,” said Sherman.
With the balance of power on Capitol Hill at stake, many people will be watching to see who wins congressional races around the country.
“In Louisiana, we should look towards national trends. And what is a very safe state for Republicans is a closer-than-expected race as the national tide has moved in favor of the generic Democratic ballot,” said Sherman.
Davis’ campaign told FOX 8 that his ads will begin running soon.
