ICE agents chase immigrants in front of Metairie business

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - ICE New Orleans say agents arrested three immigrants at a busy intersection in Metairie Tuesday morning and chased one of them on foot across Airline Drive.

Witnesses said the agents surrounded the three individuals in the parking lot of the business at Airline Drive and Clearview Parkway around 7:30 a.m.

ICE New Orleans said it arrested two of the subjects but one person ran from agents into incoming traffic across Airline Drive, dodging vehicles across six lanes of traffic.

Officials say agents eventually arrested the third person and that engaging in a pursuit with someone into traffic is not a violation of ICE policy.

“All arrested are unlawfully present in the United States and are held in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings,” an ICE New Orleans spokesperson said.

ICE did not release the identities of the three arrestees, why they were arrested and what charges they face.
