PONCHATOULA, La. (WVUE) - An accused hit-and-run driver has been arrested after a three-vehicle crash in Ponchatoula left eight people injured, including three children, police said.

Anthony P. Conley, 68, was booked Tuesday (Sept. 23) with felony hit-and-run, obstruction of justice, eight counts of misdemeanor negligent injuring and one count of driving with a suspended license, Ponchatoula Police said.

Chief Bry Layrisson said the collision occurred Monday around 6:27 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 51 and St. Patrick’s Boulevard.

Three of the people injured were children aged 2, 5 and 7. They were airlifted to area hospitals for emergency treatment.

‘Blood kits were taken from two of the drivers, and the crash is still under investigation," Layrisson said Tuesday morning.

But late Tuesday afternoon, the arrest of Conley was announced, after Layrisson said investigators determined that Conley had lied about being a passenger in a truck involved in the crash, not the driver.

The department said some of the victims remain in critical condition, and that officers are monitoring their recovery, and that additional charges “may be forthcoming.”

Police said the vehicles involved were a 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, a 2014 GMC Terrain SUV and a 2024 Hyundai Tucson.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Ponchatoula Police Department.
